The Canaries, with its year-round promise of warm sunshine and excellent facilities, makes the ideal destination for a range of disabled access holidays. I have been arranging holidays to the various beautiful islands for years, and my team and I regularly visit the area to check that the accommodation we recommend offers everything our guests are looking for.
Here is my list of the top five best hotels for those looking for great disabled access holidays.
Jardines de Nivaria, Tenerife
Tenerife is one of the most beautiful islands in the Canaries and this five-star resort certainly shows it off to its best advantage. Whether you want the kind of holiday where you just relax within your five-star development or you want to get out and see more of the island, the Jardines de Nivaria is ideally located on the Costa Adeje. For those who don’t want to venture too far from the hotel, it has a stunning beachfront location, two large outdoor swimming pools, a spa and four delicious restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. If you do want to stray beyond this five-star haven then the Puerto Colón Marina is just a short distance away.
We recommend the Jardines de Nivaria because the hotel and its grounds are fully accessible, and our clients tell us that the staff here are always happy to help.
Hard Rock Hotel, Tenerife
Older kids will love the cool rock ‘n’ roll vibe of the Hard Rock in Tenerife. The 16 fully accessible rooms are all spacious and include a touch of luxury that many of our clients have told us makes a holiday here something really special. There are three pools, a lagoon and spa, and for parents looking for a bit of a break themselves, a great kids club.
Roca Nivaria Gran Hotel, Tenerife
Another fantastic family option for disabled access holidays in Tenerife is the Roca Nivaria Gran. The adapted rooms are wide and spacious and the entire place features ramps and wide walkways, perfect for wheelchair users. There’s loads for the kids to do from playing on the beach (Paradise Beach is on the doorstep) to swimming in the pools, games room, tennis courts, archery and beach volleyball.
Hotel Princesa Yaiza, Lanzarote
At the Princesa Yaiza, you can enjoy a 300m stretch of one of Lanzarote’s most beautiful beaches directly from the hotel grounds. If you prefer to stay in the fully-accessible resort then there is plenty for you and the family to enjoy there. From swimming pools and playgrounds to spa therapy rooms and a leisure area, you will not lack a thing. Stop off for a bite to eat in the three restaurants or relax with a cold drink in one of the two bars.
For those travelling with a disabled family, the rooms are spacious with suites including separate living rooms, all of which are very wheel-chair friendly.
Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa, Gran Canaria
You might wonder why I have included a four-star hotel alongside my five-star recommendations. Well it’s because when I visited Lopesan Costa Meloneras, I was impressed not just with the accessibility and the rooms with their roll-in showers and baths with grab-rails, but with the friendly, family atmosphere. While your children will enjoy the swimming pools, tennis courts and entertainment programme, you’ll fall in love the spa and the beautiful gardens.
With so many great, fully accessible hotels to choose from, my team and I can arrange the perfect sunshine getaway for you and your family to the Canary Islands. Just give us a call and we’ll find the hotel or resort which is perfect for you.
