VisitEngland, the national tourist board which focusses on promoting domestic tourism, has launched an Access for All campaign, which aims to raise awareness of accessible visitor attractions, tourism businesses and holiday destinations in England. Chasing what has been referred to as ‘the Purple Pound’, VisitEngland calculates that the accessible tourism market is worth over £12 billion to the English economy, and they report that spending by disabled travellers and their companions has risen by a third in recent years.

Initiatives include a scheme by Brighton and Hove Buses, which now offer wheelchair access on 100% of their fleet, as well as hearing loops. For details of the VisitEngland scheme, see their Access for All site.
