Disabled Holidays in the USA Southern States
Ever wanted to go down South in the US?
Can be Done will send you on a journey to remember
The southern States of America offer visitors a wide spectrum of colourful experiences and our accessible holidays to this destination will offer you a chance to indulge in the sights, sounds, tastes and touch of America’s Dixie Belt.
The Southern States are home to some of the most famous tourist attractions and you will find that all of these have sensitively catered for disabled travellers. If you want to check out Elvis’s pad at Graceland then you’ll have access to the shuttle services and chair lifts. Hand held devices and written guides have been prepared for the hearing impaired. The mansion, Elvis Presley Automobile Museum and Sincerely Elvis Museum have all been made wheelchair accessible. So, glue on your sideburns and visit the home of the King.
If Disney World is more your cup of tea, then Orlando will be your destination of choice. The Universal Attraction Assistance Pass is issued to visitors who have intellectual, physical or learning disabilities. You won’t have to queue and you’ll be given mountains of useful literature to help you get the most out of your visit.
At Universal Studios Florida the theme park rides have been adapted in most instances to accommodate disabled guests, and all the restrooms and restaurants are accessible.
Looking for a theme park vacation? We have a range of options for you in the South.
Beaches & Nature
The South is also a beach haven, and if you head to Miami you’ll find that the South Beach area is ideally suited for most disabled travellers’ needs. As it is self-contained there is no need to drive, and the cement boardwalk along the sea wall is entirely accessible for seashore strolls in your wheelchair.
Miami is also the access point for the famous Everglades, where you can spot the alligator and other creatures foreign to our domestic shores. The visitor centre offers a 2-hour tram tour of the swamp lands which is wheelchair friendly so you’ll get to see a large area on your visit.
When beach babes and alligators beckon, then it has to be a trip to Miami. Call us for details.
Culture & Food
New Orleans is the cultural and culinary gem of the Deep South. Unlike any other destination in the USA, this city has a truly alternative character. The influences of its French and Creole origins are strong today and can be experienced in the architecture, music and food.
All the major attractions in the city are accessible and in 2015 the State issued the Access Louisiana smartphone app which visitors can download for a comprehensive guide to facilities for the disabled in restaurants, bars and tourist attractions across 300 sites in New Orleans and state-wide.
